Assessment and Reporting

.Assessment

At Mountain District Christian School, a range of assessment techniques both informal and formal, formative (on-going) and summative (at the end of a unit of work) are encouraged. Assessment should never by systematized across areas or subjects.  Forms and approaches to assessment will vary according to subject, age and even between students. Examples of assessment tasks include: tests (multiple choice and short answer), projects, oral and PowerPoint presentations, essays, class involvement (discussions etc), work sheets, folios, experiments, etc.

In the assessment process we are evaluating student behaviour (faithfulness) and achievement. We believe it is important to provide students with feedback to enhance their learning.

.reporting

A.  Half Yearly and Yearly

Reports are completed on each student in June and December and these are either proceeded by or followed up by interviews with parents.  Students are assessed on the basis of ‘Faithfulness in Set Tasks’ and ‘Strengths and ‘Weaknesses’.

ASSESSMENT EXPLANATION

Faithfulness in Set Tasks Strengths and Weaknesses
1.  Exceptional response H.  Highly competent and confident
2.  Diligent response D.  Displays sound understanding
3.  Moderate response R.  Reasonable grasp in some areas
4.  Poor response E.  Experiencing some difficulty
5.  Most inadequate response S.  Struggles excessively

B.  March Report and Report Interview

In addition to the half yearly reports, interim reports are distributed in March of each year if:

  • the student is new to Mountain District Christian School,
  • parents have requested an interim report,
  • there is concern about a students’ progress,
  • a marked change has been demonstrated from previous reports.

Parent – teacher interviews are held at the end of terms one and three of each year. These interviews are fifteen minutes in duration and are usually with the student’s class teacher.  In Years 11 and 12, we encourage students to join their parents as they meet with their subject teachers.

Additional interviews can be requested by either parent or teacher.
